about

“Abstract Forms” is a selection of rare as yet unreleased in any physical format Sandro Brugnolini recordings from the late Eighties and early Nineties. They initially were released as part of a a larger digital collection entitled “Electronic Moods And Atmospheres” (2018) on Sonor Music Editions. This set of amazing tracks arrived right at the tail end of that Golden Age of the Italian contribution to moving pictures, when famous composers and orchestras were replaced by highly creative individual soloists and innovative electronic instruments. The sixteen tracks by Sandro Brugnolini were produced for television background use or synchronization. Thanks to their great intensity and suspense, perfect to be scored in any number of thriller sequences, connecting smooth jazz memoirs filtered with machines overplayed on videogame sounding backgrounds. The majority of these experiments are not only characterized by their use of electronic instruments, as dictated with the requirements of the time, they also have a specific rhythmic inventiveness that gives them their identity. In these compositions, the man behind cult library music records like “Underground” (1970) and “Overground” (1970), member of the Modern Jazz Gang and the brilliant composer of the original soundtracks for films like “Gli Arcangeli” (Enzo Battaglia, 1962), “La Donna, Il Sesso E Il Superuomo” (Sergio Spina, 1967) and “Gungala La Pantera Nuda” (Ruggero Deodato, 1968) is being recognized as a master of electronic and digital instruments, at ease as much as with this horns as with computers and synthesizers. In the selection comprising “Abstract Forms” his desire to always step up the fun and inventiveness and to follow his drive in drawing inspiration from what technology can offer him.
